Katherine and Nick had the perfect wedding day at Dry Gulch Placer near Breckenridge, Colorado. Photographing weddings in Colorado takes me to some very special places. This was authentic Colorado. Many of the buildings were turn of the century log cabins built by miners. This is the look and feel that so many resorts try to create with modern construction but here you get the real thing.
Working with Katherine and Nick was a pleasure. We blocked out two windows in the day to photograph them alone. The second session was around sunset and proved to be well worth the effort as some of the best images were made in this time. I can do a lot with lighting and working in the best spots in the middle of the day. But it rarely compares to the amazing images we can create right before sunset. I’d love to see this trend grow as having time to photograph with the bride and groom in the golden hour of light right before sunset can yield amazing results!
