David & Talia’s; Spring Estes Park Mountain Wedding at Della Terra

Spring in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado can be a time of sun and warmth or clouds with rain and snow. It can seem as if mother nature just cant make up her mind. What I loved about David and Talia’s wedding was they didn’t let mother nature spoil their fun with a spring blizzard during their outdoor wedding. All the guests were armed with blankets and umbrellas and we had one of the most memorable ceremonies in quite a awhile. Della Terra Mountain Chateau in Estes Park, CO is a beautiful venue for a mountain wedding any time of the year or weather condition. Everything was just done perfectly with the help of Allie Reed of Flawless Timeless and Blue doing the wedding coordination for the day. Everyone seemed to just take the huge white snowflakes as a sign of joy for the day. I really like photographing mountain weddings because you never know what will happen next, It is a true adventure!

Josh & Evaren: An Oklahoma City Wedding

Being raised in Oklahoma and now living in Colorado for the last 15 years it is a real treat to return there once or twice a year to photograph. I was so happy to have the privilege to photograph Josh and Evaren’s wedding at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Downtown Oklahoma City. St. Paul’s has just finished renovating their courtyard under the direction of Architect Hans E. Butzer, and it is a wonderful space to hold an outdoor wedding.
Working with Josh & Evaren was a joy. They are both so easy going and relaxed, This just added to the great atmosphere of the outdoor wedding and reception at The Greens Country Club. After a short ride in golf cart to a beautiful location, we photographed on the golf course next to a lake with a gushing fountain. Guests spent the evening on the spacious deck enjoying the spring weather in between favorite songs on the dance floor inside. What a treat to photograph a beautiful spring wedding in my hometown!

Two weeks in Vegas

I haven’t really blogged much about our amazing experience teaching all aspects of photography at the After Dark Education photography workshops across the country. So far we have taught in Portland, New Orleans and now Las Vegas and Cincinnati in May. We get to teach aspiring and full time professional photographers from all over the country. To be honest I feel like I have learned as much as I have taught. I walk away from each event totally inspired. Over the last two weeks we took a few days to shoot personal work on the way to and from Las Vegas. Kathy and I then spent four jam packed days teaching and shooting with After Dark all over Las Vegas and the surrounding desert. Then after After Dark we jumped over to the MGM Grand for the next four days at the WPPI convention, One of the largest conventions and trade-shows for photographers in North America. It was great to see many old friends and see what new ideas many of our suppliers had for 2011. After WPPI we took the long way through the Utah desert with a stop in Zion National Park to hike the Angels Landing trail. Then home after two weeks out of the office with lots of catch up to do.

Here are some of my favorite images from this two weeks. I hope you enjoy them!

A Winter Wedding at the University of Denver; Jessica and Carl

Winter weddings are really fun. You never know what is going to happen over the course of a wedding day and in the winter the weather alone can really spice things up. This is nothing to worry about though, I just plan for everything from 60 degrees and sunny to -5 and snowing.

Carl and Jessica had a really beautiful wedding day at the University of Denver. Everything went very smoothly and great images seemed to just be happening everywhere. Carl is from England having met Jessica while they both spent a summer working at Disney World at The Mission Space ride at Epcot Center. Carl’s family couldn’t make the trip to Colorado so they watched the events unfold via Skype. It was really fun to see someone halfway around the world watching the wedding on the Mac laptops that were positioned for the best view of all the events.  What a wonderful use of technology to share Carl and Jessica’s wedding celebration with family across the globe!

One Ski Hill Place Breckenridge’s newest wedding venue

This was such an treat, honor and just great experience. This summer we did a shoot at One Ski Hill Place in Breckenridge for Rock Resorts. This is Rock Resorts largest building project ever and is sure to be a classic Colorado high country wedding venue in no time. One Ski Hill Place needed images to show this grand venue to perspective clients as it was brand new and ready to host weddings of all sizes with a grand Colorado mountain feel.

At this point they had just finished construction and needed images to show perspective Brides and Grooms all the cool options for a One Ski Hill Place wedding, and my job was to create images that captured the feel of a wedding there.  I started in the Ballrooms that had been completely decorated to look just like a wedding day with full linens and table settings topped with gorgeous flowers from Bloom Flower Shop - it was just like a real wedding without all the people.

We then wanted to shoot some images with a Bride and Groom. I had contacted Josh and Alicia one of my favorite wedding couples from 2009 to come up to Breckenridge and help us with this project. They brought their wedding dress and suit and we had a blast shooting fun images in this amazing facility. We even went up on the lifts and rode the Alpine Slide back down. I don’t know too many brides that would consider this in their, dress but Alicia jumped at the chance. I tried not to get run over as they zoomed by me standing on the sides of the track.

This was a great experience and I’d like to sincerely thank Kelly and Cat for the opportunity to create these images for Rock Resorts and One Ski Hill Place. I really look forward to capturing a real wedding at One Ski Hill Place soon.
