I had a great time photographing the Andringa family at Red Rocks just outside Morrison, Colorado. Winter can be one of the most dramatic times to the year to photograph, especially with the large red sandstone rock formations contrasting with the snow. Their storybook will feature many of the images from this session, It can be viewed below.

It was really nice to photograph a wedding at The Chapel at Red Rocks again. Red Rocks has a energy about it that really makes for a great location to hold a wedding. The Chapel at Red Rocks has the best views of this world famous Colorado landmark. It was a hot summer day but Melissa and Stan were ready to go. Melissa worked to keep cool while we created dramatic images up in the park under the towering rocks. The wedding ceremony was perfect and I felt like I was coming home photographing in the chapel. I have probably captured more weddings here that any other one venue. After the wedding we were off to Briarwood Inn in Golden, CO for an outdoor reception in there newly landscaped courtyard. The staff at Briarwood Inn was outstanding, They took care of every detail with 5 star service. We also had the pleasure of working with Mandy and the crew at Lupher Arts who did the motion picture of the wedding day. I haven’t seen the finished movie yet but they were true pros and we worked well together. I am looking forward to seeing the final movie! If you are looking for a truly amazing live band for an event or wedding check out  “Tripping Griswolds”. They really put on an amazing show! The wedding cake from Azucar Bakery was simply beautiful and YUMMY! Please take a moment and play the movie below of Melissa & Stan’s Wedding Day storybook to get the feel of what an amazing day we had. I wish Melissa and Stan all the best and look forward to getting to know them as a married couple.

Red Rocks Engagement Portraits; Carl and Jessica

Red Rocks is one of those classic Colorado locations where you just can’t go wrong for an engagement photo session. I have done at least a hundred shoots around this area and Morrison. It is always my personal challenge to create something new as if I had never been here before, This was a good day for pushing myself.

Jason & Jessica’s Engagement

Spring has sprung, It’s time to get to Red Rocks! I have been photographing in and around Red Rocks park outside of Morrison, Colorado for 8+ years now. I always try to create something new and fresh when photographing in a familiar location. This gets to be more and more of a challenge than going somewhere new. Getting a new and exciting image is what this is all about for me. Pushing creativity to the next level is my goal in work and play.

Jason and Jessica have a fun, easygoing and adventurous personality. I partially joked that they were getting a workout from all the things we were doing. I can say I was, I climbed to the top of the boulders creating a cave to create an image that I an really proud of. I’d rate the climb at least 5.8 and a bit dicy in my running shoes with a $8000 camera hanging from my shoulder.

We had a great afternoon in Red Rocks, I am really looking forward to this summer and all the great images and new places I will photograph. Coming up soon is Jason and Jessica’s wedding at the top of Keystone. That will be another great day I am really looking forward to!

A sea of red rock, I call this spot the wave. It is one of my favorites at Red Rocks.

In this image I really love the layering and how Jason and Jessica become part of the landscape with lots of depth and color!

The Cave, this is new as I have never photographed in this cave before. I really like it and hope to find dozens of more angles on this spot.

180 days in Jail and $999 fine for climbing rocks at Red Rocks. Isn't this a bit excessive for climbing a rock? I had to get this image, sometimes bending the rules for a great shot is a compromise I am willing to make. I love the colors and composition of this image.

Love and swirly backgrounds....

I really liked the form from the silhouette of the Yucca plant. Then adding Jason and Jessica in a quiet moment really made this image for me. A great ending image for their book.

Wes & Lauri Lea-Winter wedding at the Chapel at Red Rocks

I am just back from Wes and Lauri Lea’s wedding and It’s official. Yes, that was the last wedding of 2009. What a great way to end a great year. It was really nice to capture their wedding ceremony at The Chapel at Red Rocks. Red Rocks is magical in the winter  with snow on the rocks and the clear cold days make the rocks seem even larger and vibrant than normal. We then went to The Golden Hotel for the reception, thanks to Melissa for all the hospitality. The Golden Hotel is a gem nestled on the banks of Clear Creek in downtown Golden. The nice thing about a morning wedding ceremony is after the ceremony we still have some of the best natural light of the day to use and not another commitment. We went to Lodo in Denver to capture some fun images of Wes and Lauri Lea alone. We covered a lot of  ground even though it was getting really cold (mid 20s). As the last wedding of 2009 I can’t ask for a better year or better clients. Much thanks to Wes and Lauri Lea for allowing us to capture their amazing wedding day in Colorado and engagement in Memphis, TN.

We wish you the best!

Rings.... Thanks Heater! It is hard to make a creative ring portrait. I feel good about this one. Something different!

This is a fun spot that Wes and Lauri requested specifically. I put a different spin on it this time. This feels more like Brooklyn than Denver to me. Love it!
