We are featured on a new Colorado Professional Wedding Photographer site

The bar for quality wedding photography is always being raised by the true professionals nationwide but also here in Denver, Boulder and Colorado.  A new web site Professional Wedding Photographers of Denver has been created to help brides and grooms find the true professional wedding photographers in Denver for weddings on the front range and beyond. We hear so many horror stories about botched weddings shot by good intending but unqualified people that are hired by a bride and groom that are willing to sacrifice a true professional to save a little money. During the wedding planning this might seem like a great plan but afterwards it often leads to much regret and dashed hopes of quality images as a heirloom keepsake.

The Professional Wedding Photographers site is a new creation to spotlight the true professional wedding photographers working in Colorado today. To be featured on this site you have to have the Certified Professional Photographer credential (CPP) that is issued from the Professional Photographic Certification Commission. Those who have earned these certifications have passed a comprehensive written exam measuring their technical expertise, have successfully submitted their work to a panel of judges for review and approval, and abide by a professional code of ethics. A photographer must re-certify through the Professional Photographic Certification Commission to show that they are maintaining a high level of technical and artistic competency, assuring that their clients’ expectation of the standards of excellence are consistently being met.

Kathy and myself have been CPPs for quite a few years. When asked by couples for a referral of another photographer when we have their wedding date already booked.  The first qualifier to finding a competent and professional photographer is making sure they are a Certified Professional Photographer then that the client is drawn to the photographers style and personality. This is key to having successful wedding photography.

Please use the links above to gather more information on hiring a CPP photographer.

The best complement in photography is to have another opportunity to create images for a past client. I had photographed Joel and Lindsay’s wedding in 2006 and now two has become three. Their daughter Aubrey was so cute and quite a trooper during the course of the shoot. She was all curiosity and smiles, playing with pine cones and feeling the rough bark of a ponderosa pine tree. It was a nice warm February day in the mountains outside Boulder, Colorado to create a family portrait. Here are some of my favorite images, Please enjoy!

Rob & Jade: A spring wedding at The Alpenglow Stube, Keystone, CO

I am really looking forward to all my weddings this year as we are off to a great start.  I am super inspired and my clients are really having a blast letting me run wild creatively to capture the images I have in my head in incredible locations.

Rob & Jade were simply amazing to work with. They had such a fun, laid back and simply stunning wedding day. I attribute much of this to their easy going attitudes. Jade forgot her vail and realized this as she was half way up the mountain to her ceremony and she said “Oh well, guess I don’t need it”. I have seen much smaller things bring a bride to tears under the stress of a wedding day. Attitude is everything and this is why she had such an amazingly fun wedding day. We then got halfway up Keystone Mountain and the Gondola was closed due to high winds. The Gondola is THE primary way to get to the Stube as it is perched atop the Keystone Resort. Rob & Jade’s eyes lit up when the coordinator told them they would get them to the ceremony via Snow Cat. The snow cat ride ended up being a great photo opportunity from my perspective and they were really excited to get an unexpected Snow Cat tour on their wedding day. Rolling with the unexpected is the most important part of being a wedding photographer. There are always two ways to look at any situation and being opportunistic and positive is so much better than the alternative.  It allowed us to create some unexpected and fabulous wedding images.

I really enjoyed working with Rob and Jade. They had a really great group of friends that were a blast to photograph. Another great day in the beautiful Colorado mountains!

Adam and Leila’s Fall Wedding at Mount Vernon Country Club

Fall is my favorite time of year. I love the cool stable weather and the change of nature’s color palette. Adam and Leila’s wedding was a refreshing change and my last wedding in 2010. It was a small wedding with their close friends and family and they had a 10 am ceremony on the rooftop deck of Mount Vernon Country Club. It was nice and cool with gold in the Aspens below the deck. Adam and Leila are huge coffee fans and had an espresso bar as the highlight to the reception brunch that followed the wedding ceremony. After the reception, we spent another hour with Adam and Leila creating powerful images of them on the Mount Vernon grounds ending with a trip to a special spot with gorgeous mountain views a few miles away.

Troy & Jamie’s Colorado Mountain Wedding at Mount Vernon

I have really enjoyed spending time with Troy and Jamie over the last four shoots we have done. We had an amazing time during their double engagement shoots. One in Lodo and one rock climbing the 1000 ft. East Face of the the 1st Flatiron high above Boulder. After these two shoots I knew we were going to have a great time at their wedding.

There wedding day was so relaxed and fun for everyone. It was held at Mount Vernon Country Club that features the best views looking down from high above in the foothills. It only gets better after dark.

The ceremony was held outside on the upper deck. I had helped in the planing of the time of day and direction of the chairs to maximize the best light for the photographs. I am so glad we took this extra time as the lighting was so perfect. The sun was just setting behind the country club creating a glowing soft light for the ceremony.

It was proving to be a fun relaxed evening as the cake was cut and bouquet was tossed.   I left the ceremony looking forward to the next days time alone shoot that would end with a “Trash the Dress” session that I had complete artistic freedom over. I went to bed that night tired but excited for what was to come.

The next afternoon we met in Golden to shoot their “Time Alone” where the goal is to create powerful images of just the two of them in some fun locations. We did some of the  classics (the “Welcome To Golden” sign) and some fun shadow dancing images on the walls of an alley. Then we headed off to Clear Creek in the Canyon for the grand finale. I had found the best spot with amazing light quality and better background to do a portrait of them wading in the middle of the river. The water was cold but Troy and Jamie were up for any idea I threw at them. We started with them fighting the current to reach the middle of the river walking on the slick rocks. This certainly gave me the energy and excitement I was looking for. We ended the shoot with them siting in a pool having a splashing contest that made very cool splashing water streaking across the frame of the image. It was getting dark and they were getting cold. My feet had already gone numb from wading in the cold water, They must have been freezing sitting in that pool. We all had a super fun weekend and they were off to the warmer waters of Tahiti the next day.
