Chris & Leslie; an amazing fall wedding in Vail, CO

I have been really looking forward to Chris and Leslie’s wedding ever since the exceptional day we had creating their engagement images on our Redstone Destination Weekend in 2010. They are so in love and it just flows into the images. Photography was a top priority and having time to capture them during the best natural light of the day really made this wedding successful photographically speaking. We spent an hour in Vail Village before the ceremony then another 45 minutes or so after the ceremony in an Aspen grove. Having time to create the images that were running through my head was really nice.

The Ceremony was at the Vail Interfaith Chapel and the reception was at the Donovan Pavilion. It was the perfect day with an amazing couple! I’ll let the images speak for themselves. Please leave a comment below if you like what you see.

Neil and Virginia: A Boulder wedding on the family farm.

The weddings of 2011 just keep amazing me and Neil and Virginia’s took it up a notch. The wedding was held at Virginia’s parents home just outside of Boulder, CO. I loved the personal touches and feel of a country backyard wedding. The weather was perfect and I loved the quality of light on the Front Range in the evening as the God beams shone over the mountains from the setting sun. The ceremony featured a serenade from a local pack of Coyotes in the nearby woods. It was a nice natural touch and something I have never witnessed after the hundreds of weddings I’ve photographed. Another highlight was when the flower exchange was about to start and the flowers were missing. Virginia’s brother, and best man, ran and jumped the fence to pick two giant sunflowers so the ceremony could carry on. The day was very elegant but had a relaxed atmosphere with the cowboy boots and country wedding style. The reception was held in the family’s barn that had been transformed into the perfect reception space. Outside was a fire-pit where guests relaxed in the cool night air roasting marsh mellows and making smores. I really hope the wedding day storybook conveys how beautiful this day was. I had a great time photographing and designing these images into a storybook from Neil and Virginia’s super day!

We are featured on a new Colorado Professional Wedding Photographer site

The bar for quality wedding photography is always being raised by the true professionals nationwide but also here in Denver, Boulder and Colorado.  A new web site Professional Wedding Photographers of Denver has been created to help brides and grooms find the true professional wedding photographers in Denver for weddings on the front range and beyond. We hear so many horror stories about botched weddings shot by good intending but unqualified people that are hired by a bride and groom that are willing to sacrifice a true professional to save a little money. During the wedding planning this might seem like a great plan but afterwards it often leads to much regret and dashed hopes of quality images as a heirloom keepsake.

The Professional Wedding Photographers site is a new creation to spotlight the true professional wedding photographers working in Colorado today. To be featured on this site you have to have the Certified Professional Photographer credential (CPP) that is issued from the Professional Photographic Certification Commission. Those who have earned these certifications have passed a comprehensive written exam measuring their technical expertise, have successfully submitted their work to a panel of judges for review and approval, and abide by a professional code of ethics. A photographer must re-certify through the Professional Photographic Certification Commission to show that they are maintaining a high level of technical and artistic competency, assuring that their clients’ expectation of the standards of excellence are consistently being met.

Kathy and myself have been CPPs for quite a few years. When asked by couples for a referral of another photographer when we have their wedding date already booked.  The first qualifier to finding a competent and professional photographer is making sure they are a Certified Professional Photographer then that the client is drawn to the photographers style and personality. This is key to having successful wedding photography.

Please use the links above to gather more information on hiring a CPP photographer.

Rob & Jade: A spring wedding at The Alpenglow Stube, Keystone, CO

I am really looking forward to all my weddings this year as we are off to a great start.  I am super inspired and my clients are really having a blast letting me run wild creatively to capture the images I have in my head in incredible locations.

Rob & Jade were simply amazing to work with. They had such a fun, laid back and simply stunning wedding day. I attribute much of this to their easy going attitudes. Jade forgot her vail and realized this as she was half way up the mountain to her ceremony and she said “Oh well, guess I don’t need it”. I have seen much smaller things bring a bride to tears under the stress of a wedding day. Attitude is everything and this is why she had such an amazingly fun wedding day. We then got halfway up Keystone Mountain and the Gondola was closed due to high winds. The Gondola is THE primary way to get to the Stube as it is perched atop the Keystone Resort. Rob & Jade’s eyes lit up when the coordinator told them they would get them to the ceremony via Snow Cat. The snow cat ride ended up being a great photo opportunity from my perspective and they were really excited to get an unexpected Snow Cat tour on their wedding day. Rolling with the unexpected is the most important part of being a wedding photographer. There are always two ways to look at any situation and being opportunistic and positive is so much better than the alternative.  It allowed us to create some unexpected and fabulous wedding images.

I really enjoyed working with Rob and Jade. They had a really great group of friends that were a blast to photograph. Another great day in the beautiful Colorado mountains!

A Winter Wedding at the University of Denver; Jessica and Carl

Winter weddings are really fun. You never know what is going to happen over the course of a wedding day and in the winter the weather alone can really spice things up. This is nothing to worry about though, I just plan for everything from 60 degrees and sunny to -5 and snowing.

Carl and Jessica had a really beautiful wedding day at the University of Denver. Everything went very smoothly and great images seemed to just be happening everywhere. Carl is from England having met Jessica while they both spent a summer working at Disney World at The Mission Space ride at Epcot Center. Carl’s family couldn’t make the trip to Colorado so they watched the events unfold via Skype. It was really fun to see someone halfway around the world watching the wedding on the Mac laptops that were positioned for the best view of all the events.  What a wonderful use of technology to share Carl and Jessica’s wedding celebration with family across the globe!
