As of now, there is not an art program scheduled for Edison Elementary School for the Fall of August 2009. As a parent and artist; this really saddens me. We have joined the Art for Edison group and strive to raise $60,000 by May 28th 2009. The money will help hire either a full time art teacher and purchase all the supplies, or to have an artist in residence program, depending on how much money we raise. You can learn more on the Art for Edison website www.artforedison.org

There will be a silent auction on May 8th, from 6-9 pm with announcements at 9:30 at the Namaste Hospice and Events Center, 3945 Tennyson Street, Denver map

This will be a great chance to purchase amazing art at great prices that will support an even greater cause! Partial List of artists: Scott Adsit, Kym Bloom, Michael Brohman, Amands Cross, Tina Cross, Rachel Tai Davis, Nicole Hyde, Peter Holcombe, Rian Kerran, Sara Lou Klein, Lindy Lyman, Kate McPhee, Kirk Norlin, Janan Platt, Dean Rivas, Iris Scadden, Jazz Segura, Robin Segura, Michael Wais, Bryce Widom, Jennifer Wilson and more.

This year our daughter attended her last year of pre-school at St. Louis Early Learning Center, and is now moving on to kindergarten.  Our two years at St. Louis have been fantastic and we have adored all of her teachers (We love you Mrs. Lynne, Mrs. Yvonne, Mrs. Arla and Mrs. Lori!).  As a thank you for a fabulous introduction to school for our daughter, we wanted to give something back to the school.  We brainstormed with the administration about what they needed most, we decided to create one of our custom, hand-crafted books to illustrate the ELC experience and donate it in addition to a gift certificate to Holcombe Photography  to the Angel Auction.  We spent two days photographing the kids and were so fortunate to really experience pre-school first-hand through our lenses.  Watching the joy that a four year old experiences so frequently throughout the day was refreshing and rekindled our spirits.  Be sure to check out the book we created for the St. Louis auction as well as the rest of the images from our time with the kiddos.  Enjoy!

First Descents Gala: Beaver Creek, Colorado

We have been looking for a charity to get behind and support for the last few years. We have helped with quite a few in various ways but haven’t found the one that we feel is a good match until now.

First Descents is committed to curing young adults of the emotional effects of cancer and empowering them to regain control of their lives by experiencing whitewater kayaking and other challenging adventure sports in a safe, fun and supportive environment. With Kathy and myself being avid kayakers we know the power these types of experiences can have on someone’s lives. Much of our determination and success can be directly linked to lessons we have learned high up on cliffs and in raging rivers. We are looking forward to telling the story of this great organization and raising some money for them along the way. Please check out First Descents for more info and how you can get involved.

Here are a few images from the First Descents Gala (It was a hat party!) that was held last Saturday night at the Beaver Creek Ritz-Carlton.

The Lance Armstrong Foundation fundraiser party on March 11th was a great success.

Peter and Kathy donated photographic coverage for the private party at the Supreme Court Café and Nightclub to raise money for the fight against cancer. This was a fun event with a great turn out for the first year. Ken Sakal a 13-year cancer survivor and master DJ hosted this event. If you need a DJ see Kens web site at www. abc-entertain.com. We want to thank Ken for inviting us to capture this great event.

We have received incredible community support that has allowed us to build a thriving business in four short years. In an effort to show our gratitude for that continued support, Holcombe Photography has set a goal of raising $10,000 for pediatric cancer research during the month of July.
We will be photographing families and children in a variety of scenic locations throughout the Front Range on July 29 – August 1 with all session fees and 10% of all sales donated to Alex’s Lemonade Stand (see attached for more information on this wonderful organization). The mission of this organization is to raise money for childhood cancer and to encourage and educate others to raise money for childhood cancer by holding their own lemonade stands. This is a wonderful opportunity to create an heirloom family portrait while supporting a noble cause.

In order to reach our goal of $10,000 by the end of the month, we will need volunteers to set up lemonade stands throughout Colorado as well as families interested in having their portrait made. We know that pediatric cancer is a devastating disease that crosses all boundaries of society and impacts many lives in our community. Please help us spread the word to our community so that we can reach our goal and support research for a cure of pediatric cancer.

Thank your for your support in spreading the word!
