This was our fifth year to photograph the Wildcatter Gala for the Independent Petroleum Association of the Mountain States, and true to form, the evening was extraordinary. Each year we are inspired by the recipients of the Wildcatter Lifetime Achievement Award for their numberous business and humanitarian achievements and this years recipient, William W. Ballard was no exception. He not only started a very successful company, Balcron Oil, but also served as a professor, Chairman of the Department of Geology and the Board of Trustees for Rocky Mountain College along with numberous other awards and positions. It is truly inspiring to witness the many accomplishments of Mr. Ballard. Thank you for allowing us a small glimpse into the life of an incredible man and to document your latest and much deserved award.

This year, we introduced a different approach to designing our Wedding Storybooks. Rather than asking our couples to sift through 1000+ images to relive their wedding day, we decided that the very first glimpse of images should be a finished storybook that features our favorite images displayed in a custom design that tells the complete story of the wedding as we experienced it. After each wedding this year, Peter has vanished for about a week, and after several very long days in front of the computer emerges with a new storybook design displayed on our website.

We have had so much positive feedback on this experience from our couples and their guests, and we believe that our albums are better than ever as a result of this process. In fact we were so excited about one of our wedding storybooks that we decided to enter it into the Professional Photographers of America’s International Print Competition. We have just received word that our storybook design has been accepted into the General Exhibit and will be on display at the international Imaging USA Convention in San Antonio in January. We are honored to have received an international Merit of Excellence for our work and are so thankful for all of our clients’ enthusiasm and support in this new process.

In April, Peter participated in the annual print competition at the Wedding and Portrait Photographers International (WPPI). WPPI has grown to be the largest trade show and convention in professional photography. In his first year of competition, he has been awarded an International Award of Excellence for his image “Eyes for Him”. It is an honor to be recognized by WPPI and their panel of peer judges.

“Eyes for Him” was created at the wedding of Jim and Toga in Little Rock, Arkansas.
It might have the look of a studio image but was actually created on location in the bride’s dressing room. Holcombe Photography is quickly becoming known for not only their documentary storytelling, but for their use of unique locations to create cutting edge imagery with out taking time from the events during the wedding day.

Kathy and Peter both attended the WPPI convention to learn and share the latest techniques and styles from other photographers around the world. Look for bold new images from this years wedding season as Peter and Kathy are as excited as ever to get shooting.

Certified Professional Photographer is a designation granted by the Photographic Certification Commission, the world’s leading certification agency of imaging professionals.

Those who have earned the Certified Professional Photographer designation have passed a comprehensive written examination measuring their technical expertise, and have successfully submitted their work to a panel of judges for review and approval.

This is another great addition to Peters Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography degree from the University of Oklahoma. Just another way for clients of Holcombe Photography to know they are getting the finest photographic products when commissioning for a wedding or portrait.

When hiring a doctor you would want to make sure they had a degree and professional training so why wouldn’t you want the same commitment for hiring a professional photographer capturing you families memories.

Kathy is working on her certified professional photographer designation currently.
