Neil and Virginia: A Boulder wedding on the family farm.

The weddings of 2011 just keep amazing me and Neil and Virginia’s took it up a notch. The wedding was held at Virginia’s parents home just outside of Boulder, CO. I loved the personal touches and feel of a country backyard wedding. The weather was perfect and I loved the quality of light on the Front Range in the evening as the God beams shone over the mountains from the setting sun. The ceremony featured a serenade from a local pack of Coyotes in the nearby woods. It was a nice natural touch and something I have never witnessed after the hundreds of weddings I’ve photographed. Another highlight was when the flower exchange was about to start and the flowers were missing. Virginia’s brother, and best man, ran and jumped the fence to pick two giant sunflowers so the ceremony could carry on. The day was very elegant but had a relaxed atmosphere with the cowboy boots and country wedding style. The reception was held in the family’s barn that had been transformed into the perfect reception space. Outside was a fire-pit where guests relaxed in the cool night air roasting marsh mellows and making smores. I really hope the wedding day storybook conveys how beautiful this day was. I had a great time photographing and designing these images into a storybook from Neil and Virginia’s super day!

We have just returned from photographing Mark and Shannon’s wedding at Red Cliffs Lodge near Moab, Utah. What an amazing venue for a desert wedding with all the bells and whistles! I still have lots of work ahead to get this out in the world. But in the meantime I created this movie made of every image taken at Mark & Shannon’s wedding compressed into a 1.5 minute movie. Enjoy and let me know if you like it!

Baby Gage - Celebrating his first year!

We met Kim and Lucas over six years ago and had the privilege of photographing their engagement session and their wedding in 2006. Over the years, they have become friends and we have created many images for them including documenting their daughter Lauren’s first year in 2008.

When we found out Kim was expecting again in 2010, we were delighted and very much looking forward to creating a first year book for their newest addition, but we had no idea what an incredible story it would become. When Kim was just over half way through with her pregnancy, she was admitted to the hospital with early signs of labor and there she stayed doing anything and everything to postpone labor as long as possible. We waited on pins and needles every day for weeks hoping for an update from Kim reassuring friends and family that all was well.

Baby Gage simply couldn’t wait to make his grand entrance and two and a half months early, Kim and Lucas welcomed their sweet baby boy into their lives. He was only 3 lbs. when he was born, and had a multitude of health complications, but more importantly he had an incredible spirit and continued to surprise his family and caretakers with his unbelievable progress. We were able to visit him in the hospital and photograph him as a precious and tiny preemie, and then again a month later when he was able to go home. It has been an incredible journey watching Gage grow from a tiny and fragile preemie into a sweet and happy baby with a contagious smile.

It was difficult to illustrate all that Gage and the Byers family has been through in the past year, but we have done our best to tell Gage’s story. Click here to view Gage’s First Year Book. Enjoy!
