First Descents Gala: Beaver Creek, Colorado

We have been looking for a charity to get behind and support for the last few years. We have helped with quite a few in various ways but haven’t found the one that we feel is a good match until now.

First Descents is committed to curing young adults of the emotional effects of cancer and empowering them to regain control of their lives by experiencing whitewater kayaking and other challenging adventure sports in a safe, fun and supportive environment. With Kathy and myself being avid kayakers we know the power these types of experiences can have on someone’s lives. Much of our determination and success can be directly linked to lessons we have learned high up on cliffs and in raging rivers. We are looking forward to telling the story of this great organization and raising some money for them along the way. Please check out First Descents for more info and how you can get involved.

Here are a few images from the First Descents Gala (It was a hat party!) that was held last Saturday night at the Beaver Creek Ritz-Carlton.

Maggie: A portrait in the blizzard than never happened

I have been thinking lately, why do portraits have certain limits set upon them? Most people think of portraits being either in a studio or on a nice green summer day. What would it be like to do a portrait in the middle of a blizzard? I was thinking this on Friday when a blizzard was supposed to hit Colorado on Sat. So I did something I think I’ll do more often. I posted up to my Facebook wall that I would give a free portrait session to the first person willing to go out into a Blizzard to have a portrait made.

Maggie ended up being the first one after a few friends heckling the idea. Well the blizzard never happened, but we went out and shot anyway. I am really happy with the images even if my experiment didn’t get fully tested. Here are a few images from the shoot.
